Biography

Jim Brickman has revolutionized the sound of solo piano with his pop-style instrumentals and star studded vocal collaborations.

Since the release of his debut album “No Words” in 1994, Jim Brickman’s romantic piano sound has made him the best selling solo piano artist of our time.  His signature style of playing and songwriting has also brought him two Grammy nods, six Gold and Platinum albums, and 28 charted adult radio hits. He recently tied for most number one CDS on Billboard’s New Age chart, and currently holds four of its top ten spots.  Jim received top honors with two SESAC “Songwriter of the Year” awards, a Canadian Country Music Award and a Dove Award presented by the Gospel Music Association.

Jim's best-known compositions include the chart-toppers “Valentine,” “The Gift,” “Love of My Life,” “Simple Things” and “Peace.” He has established a reputation for his collaborations with many gifted musical artists that include: Martina McBride, Gerald Levert, Lady Antebellum, Matt Giraud, Michael W. Smith, Kenny Loggins, Carly Simon, Herb Alpert, Collin Raye, Michael Bolton, Sara Evans, Donny Osmond, Olivia Newton-John, and four American Idol Finalists.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Brickman began playing piano at the age of five and studied music at the prestigious Cleveland Institute of Music. He founded his own advertising music company in 1980, writing commercial jingles for such advertisers as McDonald’s, Pontiac and Kellogg’s.

A strong supporter of PBS, Jim has taped four concert specials for that network, which include Jim Brickman at the Magic Kingdom—The Disney Songbook (2005), My Romance, An Evening with Jim Brickman (2000) Love Songs and Lullabies (2002) and Beautiful World (2009).

Brickman’s highly anticipated album release, Home, a Target exclusive, will arrive in stores this October 2010. Home features an eclectic group of artists including American Idols Matt Giraud, award-winning country singer Ty Herndon, Australian pop singer Delta Goodrem and HLN Morning Express host Robin Meade. The first single off the album, “Thank You” featuring Giraud, was the #1 most added single on the Billboard/R&R charts during its first week at radio.

A song inspired by Jim’s fans, “Thank You” shares a universal message that’s memorable and without a doubt, a smash hit! “All these years, the fans applause has meant thank you to me! When they listen to the words, I hope each one knows this song was written especially for them.” said Jim.

Brickman has received international acclaim as a concert performer, taking his popular live concerts to more than 125 cities each year. He performed on his fifth sold-out Jim Brickman Cruise, a unique event that has become an annual fan favorite. Brickman teamed up with American Greetings lending his music to create some of their best-selling e-Cards to date.

Other artistic endeavors include a weekly radio show, Your Weekend, two best selling books, Simple Things and Love Notes, debuts at Carnegie Hall and the White House, as well as international touring from Spain to Thailand.  Jim lends a hand to several charitable foundations for children including Autism Speaks, UNICEF, and Camp Heartland.

Jim's music is therapy I want to thank Jim for sharing his wonderful talent with all of us. I had surgery a couple of years ago and my husband brought my CD player and all of my Jim Brickman CD's to the hospital and played them nonstop till I went home 3 days later. It relaxed and comforted me so much. We are getting ready to attend our 3rd show with Jim on Dec. 1 in Evansville, IN. I am so excited that we get to attend the meet and greet with him. I got to talk with Jim on the phone when I got the tickets and I excitedly called my daughter and said, "Guess who I just got to talk to?" Her response was, " It must have been God as excited as you sound!" I can't wait until Dec. 1st. Thank you so much for the beautiful music and outstanding performances. Submitted By: Donna Kiesel

Thanks for the music Congratulations! I first heard and saw you on the Today show about 12 or 13 years ago and told my friends in Cleveland, OH about you. Little did I know that you were almost a Cleveland native and that I would get to meet you at one of your signings in Ohio! What a thrill that was for me. Then in July of this year , 2009, my oldest son was married and we danced the Mother-Son dance to your rendition of "Never Alone" featuring Lady Antebellum. There wasn't a dry eye around! Your music is so very special and touches the heart. Thanks for playing and blessing the world with your talent! Submitted By: Laurie

Destiny We truly love all of your songs, however Destiny has a real profound meaning. We were high school sweethearts and broke up many years ago for religious reasons. We didn't see each other until our 25th class reunion, and then just spoke briefly. Two years later - he was always a little late - Roger called and asked me to dinner. We dated for several years, but once again there were complications beyond our control. Last January, I was traveling from Milwaukee to Charleston by car, and Roger offered to drive with me so I wouldn't have to make the trip alone. We talked for two days straight, and we've been together ever since. It's been over 47 years since our 1st date in high school, and we just keep coming back to one another. He's definitely my destiny - he and I were meant to be! That song just says it all. It will always be one of our favorites. Jeannie Submitted By: Jeannie & Roger

Congrats Jim, I have been listening and playing your music since my college days. I remember going to your concert at the Paramount Theater in Austin, Texas where you performed with Anne Conchran in 1995. I bought all your piano books then and you graciously signed them. I studied in the engineering department all the time listening to your CD's. I continously rave about your music to all my family and friends. You're music has gotten us through our lives. I played many of your songs at family weddings, family funerals, and most recently, I made my mom a recording of me playing your music so she could listen to it after her kidney transplant. I hope after my kidney transplant, that I will still be playing and listening to your music. Thanks for everything. Always, Lorena Submitted By: Lorena Garcia

Never alone Dear Jim, I know you must get thousands of messages saying how much your music has an effect on them. Well not only for me has this song become a stalwart friend but also to a dear friend of my who is going through major health issues. Janine is the sweetest soul walking this earth. She has helped so many people and her positive influence in this world is something to behold. I sent her the youtube video of this song last night, it arrived at a particularly dark moment for her and this song lifted her spirit and raised her hope and determination. Very often in this life we know not the effect we have on others. I want to say to you you are a beautiful soul and your life helps so many. that to me is a succsesfull life. May you forever be happy, blessed and loved. Your friend. Ian Dixon Submitted By: Ian Dixon
